Case Study: Information System Design and Implementation
The Audit Office of Guyana (AOG) is the Supreme Auditing Institution (SAI) of Guyana, established under the National Constitution for auditing the public accounts of Guyana and other accounts. IT resources were fragmented and poorly maintained. An information system was developed for the AOG. Optimum hardware and software were purchased (via national tender), a wired/wireless LAN and high speed internet access were installed, auditing software was installed and a formal IS department with modern policies was created (e.g. with UK data policy standards). 100+ AOG staff were put on an extensive training programme to upgrade their skills and ability to effectively utilise the new information system. The project was done within budget and the AOG now enjoys one of the best IS environments in Guyana offering convenience and support to its staff in the conduct of their technical duties.
The Department of Social Services of the Ministry of Labor, Human Services and Social Security (MLHSSS) is responsible for the government's social welfare programme. This includes payments to pensioners and persons in need. A MSSQL Server relational database with a customised interface that emphasized ease of use and security, was designed to capture data on the persons that the Department serves and generate relevant reports for management. |
